Great News! CB&I gives $100k to CPCC for welding program

CB&I Co. is contributing $100,000 to Central Piedmont Community College to support the welding and nondestructive-examination facilities at school's Harper Campus. Announcement of the gift was made during the Charlotte Chamber's intercity visit to Houston last week.

CB&I, also known as Chicago Bridge and Iron, has 900 employees in uptown Charlotte following its acquisition of the Shaw Power Group. The company (NYSE:CBI) focuses on energy infrastructure, and welding and examination skills are essential to the fabrication of its products.

"While CB&I is a new name to Charlotte, we consider the Queen City to be a vital area of growth for our power operations, and we fully recognize that Charlotte has become a key hub of electricity growth in the United States," said Jeff Merrifield, senior vice president and a member of the chamber's executive committee.
